UK vs. Israeli Bed & Bedding Sizes: A Complete Guide

UK vs. Israeli Bed & Bedding Sizes: A Complete Guide

For many British olim living in Israel, shopping for bedding can be unexpectedly tricky. Standard sizes differ from what you might be used to back in the UK, and finding the right size fitted sheets and blankets for your bed can feel like a guessing game. Since you’re shopping for sheets and blankets that fit just right, we’ve written a short guide to help you understand how Israeli sizes stack up against the UK measurements you are more familiar with. This comparison can help you navigate our website and shop online with confidence.

While the standard sized Israeli bed is the same width as its UK counterpart, it is 10 cm longer. In addition, there are no direct matches for the other bed sizes - Israel wide, queen and king have significantly different measurements than the UK beds with the same size names.

Blankets are much wider than the bed, so they can drape over the sides of the bed and ensure enough coverage for the sleeper. They are also longer than the bed so they can provide coverage at the foot of the bed, even with tucking. The blanket’s larger dimensions accommodate the bed's depth, provide warmth, and allow flexibility in how the blanket is used. The different bed sizes also translate into differences in the blanket size between countries.

To give you an actual example of the bed and bedding size differences, the Israeli Wide (120 cm) doesn't have an exact UK equivalent. The UK Double (135 cm wide) is a bit wider, but it's the closest match. In addition, the Israeli Wide (Mita Vachetzi) blanket size (150 x 200 cm) and UK Double (200 x 200 cm) are mismatched in size. The Israeli King XL and UK Super King differ in dimensions, with the UK blanket being wider but shorter. For additional size comparisons, see the table below.

Given all of this, it should be clear that bedding for most Israeli size beds is not a good match for British beds, and vice versa. Imagine trying to get a UK fitted sheet on an Israeli bed or trying to cover an Israeli blanket with a UK duvet cover - definitely an awkward fit!
